I was in North Beach, San Francisco right after the Azzuri won the World Cup. Fanatics were walking through the streets draped in the green, white, and red flag and singing the national anthem at top of their lungs. The reasons to celebrate were plentiful. This is the 4th World Cup Championship for the Italians, the last win was over 20 years ago in '82. In 1994, Italy lost to Brazil when it came to penalty kicks, but yesterday, history did not repeat itself. This was only the 2nd Final ever to have been decided by penalty kicks and the Azzuri won with a score of 5-3.The French lost, but you can't deny that they played well and with honor. Zidane, arguably the best player of the past 20 years, was sent off in overtime for an intentional headbutt to the chest of an Italian defender. You can choose to focus on one of the following: that Zidane ended his outstanding career with a red card or that Zidane started his retirement with the Golden Ball.
